Mahashivratri: A Divine Night

What is Mahashivratri? 'Mahashivratri' literally translates to 'The Great Night of Lord Shiva' and it is a Hindu festival celebrated in the honour of Lord Shiva, one of the three most important Gods in Hinduisim.  This year Mahashivratri falls on the 8th of March. Traditionally on the day of Mahashivratri people stay awake the whole night, observe fasting, meditate, chant 'Om Namah Shivaya', attend Mahashviratri Puja or Rudra Puja and worship the Shivalinga.  Curtin Hindu Club's Mahashivratri: A Divine Night On Mahashviratri this year, Curtin Hindu Club has organised a social and spiritual night to celebrate and worship Lord Shiva. The event will be held from 7.30pm to 12am at Aloca Court on Curtin Bentley Campus. There will be many fun, social and spiritual activities taking place that night. They will include: icebreaker games dancing performances  vegetarian dinner worship of Shivalingam  meditation and chanting discussion on the importance of Shiva and Mahashivratri  It is an alcohol-free event open to people of all culture and religion. Entry to the event is FREE for all (both members and non-members). Weekly on-campus meditation and spiritual wellbeing sessions based on the Hindu Vedic principles. These sessions will involve yoga, guided chapter-by-chapter reading of the holy book the Bhagavad Gita, knowledge of the Bhagavad Gita for daily living and self-actualisation, uplifting kirtans and mantra meditation. The sessions will conclude with a hot vegetarian meal which includes curry, rice and halwa.  Entry and Hot Vegetarian Meal is FREE for all.  Sessions will be Wednesdays during Common Free Time (12pm to 2pm). They will commence Wednesday, 28th February. Further sessions will be held on: 13th March, 20th March, 3rd April, 17th April, 1st May, 8th May, 15th May and 22nd May.
