What is Mahashivratri?
'Mahashivratri' literally translates to 'The Great Night of Lord Shiva' and it is a Hindu festival celebrated in the honour of Lord Shiva, one of the three most important Gods in Hinduisim.
This year Mahashivratri falls on the 8th of March. Traditionally on the day of Mahashivratri people stay awake the whole night, observe fasting, meditate, chant 'Om Namah Shivaya', attend Mahashviratri Puja or Rudra Puja and worship the Shivalinga.
